Q1 Clue Collections: Organization

13. Data Detectives

Your Detective Folder

Before any great detective cracks a case, they need a place to stash their clues! Today, you’ll kick off your investigation by creating your 21T4S Thing 13 Data Detectives folder and setting up your 13. Data Detective Notebook. This is where every clue, chart, pattern, and “aha!” moment will live—because even the best detectives can’t solve mysteries with messy evidence. Ready to organize your case files and begin the hunt? Let’s get sleuthing!

Step 1: The Folder. Use the instruction document below to follow the steps needed to create a folder. If you have created folders in your Drive before, read the labeling tips below before creating a new folder.

  • If you have a 21 Things 4 Students folder as a main folder, put the Thing 13 Data Detectives folder in that main folder.
  • If you do not have a 21 Things 4 Students as a main folder, you may want to create one, then create the Thing 13 Data Detective folder inside it.
  • A suggested name for this folder is "Thing 13 Data Detectives."
  • Create a Folder: Follow the instructions in the document, 13.Q1 Creating a Folder.
    • Follow the appropriate Google or Microsoft instructions for your school.

Your Data Detective Notebook

  • screenshot of the title location (upper right hand corner) of the Data Detective Journal.
  • Make sure the Notebook is saved in your 21T4S Thing 13 Data Detective folder.
    • In Google, you do that by selecting the folder in the pop-up field.
    • In Microsoft, go to your folder, select the Create or upload button, then select Files upload.
  • Add your and your detective partner's name to your notebook, in the box on the first page. Each partner should keep their own journal.
  • Now get your own copy of the 13. Data Detective Notebook and follow the instructions above.
  • On slide 2, read the instructions and be ready to use your 13. Data Detective Notebook during the entire Data Detectives Thing.
